About Hedgehog Class
Hedgehog is our class for 3-4 year olds.
We have a slightly more structured approach with a daily routine. The children all come together for a short circle time and register first thing. They then all go in to their key groups with their key person. Each practitioner plans for her own group of children to ensure their individual needs and interests are met. Progress is recorded in each child’s learning journal.
Each child is treated as an individual and is allowed to progress at his/her own pace.
Daily activities include: child initiated games/free flow access to the outdoor environment/Jolly phonics/singing and action rhymes/ letters and sounds listening activities/ art and craft/ role play/ construction/story time/sand/ water play and paint is always available for the children to access.
All children at the pre-school have access to the stunning National Trust parkland that runs at the back of the Pre-school. Children regularly participate in class nature walks which encourage good group interaction and awareness of others. We like to take the children out whatever the weather and ask that you provide waterproofs and wellies so that we can splash in the puddles on rainy days.
We have an outside wildlife area which has a mud kitchen which proves very popular! There is a willow tree tunnel, water and pebble play, wooden see saw as well as an outdoor xylophone. This area borders the chicken coop and we regularly visit the chicken to watch their progress, feed and care for them.
At the front of the pre-school we have a large play area with ride-on toys and bikes as well as lots of play equipment for children to enjoy at breaktime. There is a separate wooden play zone with climbing equipment and a slide, digging patches and a small pond for the slightly older children.
